The director of CEI has taken part in a meeting organised by the Secretaría General de Universidades, Investigación y Tecnología, in order to advance in the preparation of the Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialisation (RIS3) in Andalusia, with the presence of the assessor of the European Commission for the region D. Rafael Rodríguez Clemente.

The national and regional strategies for smart specialisation (RIS3 strategies) combine into an integrated agenda for the economic transformation of the territory based on five points:

 Political support for and investment in the key priorities, challenges and needs of each country or region for a knowledge-based development.
 The full exploitation of the strong points, competitive advantages and potential of each country or region.
 Support to technological innovation and applied research, and encouragement of private initiative.
 Full commitment of all agents and promotion of innovation and experimentation.
 A system based on previous experience and supported by solid supervision and evaluation mechanisms.
