CEI CamBio is a meeting point around the environment, biodiversity and global change, which plays a crucial role in the consolidation of Andalusia as a referent in this areas of knowledge. Coordinated by Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla, CEI CamBio is a network of over 200 members which stands as a platform for the projection of joint projects in environmental issues.
CEI CamBio has taken part in the activities included in the ‘IV Semana Verde – Actúa en Verde’, organised by the Aula Verde, Universidad de Jaén (UJA), between the 22nd and the 27th of April.
Joaquín Tovar, Delegado del Rector de la Universidad de Jaén en el CEI, ha presentado el proyecto CamBio, y sus iniciativas más emblemáticas en el llamado “Día D Investigación Ambiental”, organizado en colaboración con el Vicerrector de Investigación, Desarrollo Tecnológico e Investigación y la Unidad de Cultura Científica de la UJA.
The director of CamBio, Pilar Paneque, was invited to represent the coalition in the international meeting ‘Mujeres y TICs: inclusión digital para el desarrollo sostenible’, celebrated at the Universidad Tecnológica de Panamá between the 18th and 20th of July, with the lecture (imparted through streaming) ‘La innovación en la investigación en las Ciencias y las Tecnologías: nuevos modelos de cooperación internacional para el Desarrollo Sostenible’. The conference included participants from France, Mali, Switzerland, Mexico, Nigeria, USA, Afghanistan and Brazil.
CEI CamBio has signed an agreement, for the second year running, for the funding of actions in the area of the society of information and the use of multimedia technologies for teaching and research. These actions are funded by the Programme Campus de Excelencia Internacional, Ministerio de Educación, Modalidad Colaboración Público–Privada.
As established in Resolución de 22 de marzo de 2012, Agencia Andaluza de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (AACID) has approved a grant of €450,000 for the development of project ‘Nodo Andaluz del Centro de Medio Ambiente y Conservación de la Biodiversidad en Panamá’, for the implementation of the agreement signed between AACID and Universidad Pablo de Olavide – coordinator of CEI CamBio – concerning the development of a specific international cooperation for development programme.
CamBio has been identified as one of the key agents for the economy of knowledge in Seville. As such, it will be part of the small work group in charge of examining the report ‘Study on the Economy of Knowledge in Seville’. This report is being produced by Seville Council’s agency Sevilla Global within the framework of Project Knowcities, sponsored by the EU.

CEI CamBio has taken part – through Universidad Pablo de Olavide, coordinator of the project – in the Salón Internacional de Agua, Riego y Medio Ambiente (SMAGUA), a long established meeting which this year was celebrated between the 6th and 9th of March in Zaragoza. The meeting congregates researchers connected with water management, and this year included a new space focused on technological transference. This new forum aimed at facilitating communication between scientists and entrepreneurs, and at laying the foundations for future collaborative agreements.

Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville, as coordinator of CEI CamBio, and Fundación Vodafone España signed last March 5 an agreement within the framework of the programme Campus de Excelencia Internacional. More specifically, the agreement draws from the funding opportunities defined by the Ministry of Education in 2011 under the heading Colaboraciones Público-Privadas del Subprograma de Fortalecimiento.
Following the partnership between CamBio and Ciudad del Saber, formalised last January, a team from our campus has visited this country between the 22nd and the 27th of February.
