Along with the Consejería de Medio Ambiente, Junta de Andalucía CamBio has convened the Conference “El Cambio Climático y el medio urbano”, which focuses on novel ideas and actions against climate change. The conference, with the participation of experts and representatives of various public bodies and social groups, is divided into four sections: ‘Cambio climático y cambio global’, ‘Medio ambiente urbano y mitigación’, ‘Adaptación al cambio climático’ and ‘Sostenibilidad urbana y cambio climático’. Each of these sections will be developed into several scientific sessions oriented towards open discussions and the putting together of ideas and arguments, with the participation of the readers and the public.
The closing session was attended by José Antonio Griñán, President of the Junta de Andalucía; Felipe González, president of the Consejo de Participación de Doñana and former Prime Minister, Juan Jiménez, Chancellor of the Universidad Pablo de Olavide, José Juan Díaz Trillo, Councilor of Medio Ambiente and Pilar Paneque, director of Campus de Excelencia Internacional de Medio Ambiente, Biodiversidad y Cambio Global.
The conference followed the guidelines set forth in the Estrategia Andaluza de Sostenibilidad Urbana (EASU). This initiative approaches issues such as urbanism, construction, mobility and the exploitation of natural and energy resources, with the aims of incorporating cities into the fight against climate change and moving towards the development of a new model of sustainable economy, creating an action protocol and guaranteeing the sustainable use of resources at a local level.
