Towards the analysis of the “neighbourhood effect” from a symbolic perspective: can cultural scenes promote healthier lifestyles?

This publication shows the link between two research lines of the Urban Governance Lab focused on the relevance of place as a cultural context and its interconnection with contemporary healthy lifestyles. In line with trends of social change, results show that innovative cultural contexts produce an “assimilation effect” in health-related practices among socioeconomic status. This assimilation effect therefore contributes to reducing the magnitude of disparities in the adoption of healthier lifestyles in those contexts characterized by more innovative cultural scenes.
