gráficos con datos y métricas del portalThe Library of the UPO has just launched a scientific production portal in which it presents a bibliometric report whose objective is to show, in an individualized way, the indicators of the publications of this university, in order to obtain a clear image of its performance.

As the presentation of the portal itself indicates, researchers communicate the results of scientific activity through publications, which in fact constitute one of the main outputs (results of a process) that emanate from universities and research centres. Currently, the publications themselves, as well as the bibliometric indicators based on them, are used for the evaluation of researchers at individual and group levels and of the institutions in which they work. Some of the most widely used classifications at the global level are built on these indicators.

The report, which has been elaborated by the Research Support Service of the Library, studies the institutional scientific production during the years 2014-2018, especially focusing on the year 2018.

The bibliometric analysis tool called InCites, subscribed by the University Library Consortium of Andalusia, whose data come from the Web of Science, has been used to carry out this analysis. Moreover, the database Scopus has also been used secondarily as a source of information.

The report outlines the main indicators of the UPO analysing the impact of publications as measured by citations. Variables such as the rate of international collaboration, publications in journals in excellent positions or highly relevant articles are analysed. It also includes a performance analysis by subject matters and levels, considering also the publication of findings in open access.

This report also includes a national comparative evaluation among universities with similar number of teaching and research staff (TRS) on full-time and a comparative evaluation in the Andalusian region among the institutions of the Andalusian University System.
