As Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all students in the University Pablo de Olavide. The Faculty of Social Sciences is the youngest Faculty of the University Pablo de Olavide, but its undergraduate degree programs have been the first to be adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). Furthermore, the Faculty of Social Sciences was the first Faculty to offer the Double Undergraduate Degree in Political and Administration Science and Sociology and the Double Undergraduate Degree in Social Work and Social Education.

This has been made possible not only due to the hard work of the current professors, but also due to a team of great professionals in the field of research, who were involved in the setting up of the “Escuela de Trabajo Social” (School of Social Work) in1999. These professionals were also pioneers in launching the pilot project to test the introduction of the Bologna Process.

Currently, the Faculty of Social Sciences offers high-level degree programs thanks to this previous experience with the Bologna Process. The Faculty of Social Sciences offers five different programs at undergraduate level: Degree in Social Education, Degree in Social Work, Degree in Sociology, Joint Degree in Social Work and Social Education, Joint Degree in Political and Administration Science and Sociology and Joint Degree in Social Work and Sociology. All of these undergraduate degrees are fully adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

Furthermore, it is important to highlight that this Faculty works on an inter- and multidisciplinary basis. The following departments are represented in our degree programs:

  • Public Law
  • Anthropology, Basics Psychology and Public Health
  • Education and Social Psychology
  • Geography
  • History and Philosophy
  • Social Work and Social Services
  • Economics, Quantitative Methods and Economic History

The University Pablo de Olavide (through the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Centre for Postgraduate Studies) offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research qualifications related to the Social Sciences.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the active participation of our students in a range of international mobility programs makes possible to develop a complex network of Social Service organizations. Our undergraduate programs also offer practical courses with internships in a broad range of social and educational institutions, NGOs and social entities. This networks help to improve the employability of students and the research competence of professors of this Faculty.

Thank you for choosing to study with us!

Prof. Dr. Juan Miguel Gómez Espino
