Este jueves día 26 de octubre, a las 12.00, en el marco del 3º Ciclo de Conferencias Bilingualism on the Move,tendrá lugar una charla-taller titulada "The Challenges of Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling Cultures", que impartirá el profesor invitado, el Dr. Carlos de Pablos Ortega (East Anglia University, Norwich). The Challenges of Audiovisual Translation: Subtitling Cultures
This workshop will focus on the challenges of audiovisual translation (AVT) from both technical and linguistic angles. The first part of the session will introduce the basics of AVT, its technical elements and various types of programs used for the creation of subtitles. This will be followed by other aspects such as time or space constraints and limitations that have an impact on the translation of the original film script into subtitles. Throughout the workshop there will be practical activities which will lead to reflection, analysis and discussion about the challenges and constraints of this mode of translation. The workshop will be conducted in English.
El profesor de Pablos Ortega es Senior Lecturer en español, lingüística y traducción audiovisual en el departamento de Lengua y Comunicación de la Universidad de East Anglia (Norwich, Reino Unido) y profesor invitado en el Máster de Lingüística Aplicada de la Universidad Nebrija en Madrid. Sus áreas de investigación son la pragmática contrastiva y la traducción audiovisual. Ha publicado artículos de investigación en revistas internacionales: Journal of Pragmatics, Pragmatics, Sociocultural Pragmatics y Communication and Medicine, y un capítulo sobre percepciones y traducción audiovisual titulado Audience Perception of Characters in Pedro Almodóvar"s Film The Flower of My Secret en el libro Audiovisual Translation: Taking Stock (Cambridge Scholar). Su libro Seamos pragmáticos: Introducción a la pragmática española (Yale University Press), junto con Derrin Pinto, presenta de forma didáctica un panorama contrastivo de la pragmática en español e inglés.
