Bethany Aram es Catedrática de Historia Moderna en la Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO) de Sevilla desde 2023. En la actualidad la Profa. Aram dirige el proyecto FEDER-UPO-1380997 financiado por la Junta de Andalucía y el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional de la Unión Europea, “Género y etnia en el istmo de Panamá, 1500-1700, y en otros ámbitos.” Desde 2016 a 2021, lideró el primer proyecto financiado por el European Research Council (Horizon 2020) achieved by an Andalusian university at the "Consolidator" modality,Consolidatorthe ERC CoG 648535, “An ARTery of EMPIRE. Conquest, Commerce, Crisis, Culture and the Panamanian Junction (1513-1671)” (ArtEmpire).
Professor Aram is interested in Early Modern History, Atlantic History and Global History since her research beginnings at the University of Yale (USA) and at Johns Hopkins University. Su primer libro, La Reina Juana: Gobierno, Piedad, Dinastía (Marcial Pons Historia, 2001), fue publicado en inglés por la Johns Hopkins University Press en 2005. Es autora, además, de Leyenda Negra y Leyendas Doradas en la Conquista de América. Pedrarias y Balboa (Marcial Pons Historia, 2008) y La Apertura del Pacífico desde Panamá. Más allá que las leyendas (Fundación Puñonrostro, 2019) and editor, together with Bartolomé Yun Casalilla Casalilla of Global Goods and the Spanish Empire, 1492-1824. Circulation, resistance and diversity (Houndsmills: Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). She is author and co-author of more than 50 books, book chapters and scientific articles.
