Manuel Pérez García is currently a Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of History, Shanghai Jiao Tong UniversityFormerly he was an Associate Professor at the School of International Studies, Renmin University of China, between 2013 and 2017. He was awarded a Ph.D. by the European University Institute in Florence (Italy). He was recently awarded an ERC (European Research Council)-Starting Grantwithin the funding program Horizon 2020 of the European Union Funding for Research & Innovation to carry out the project GECEM (Global Encounters between China and Europe). He is also the founder and director of Global History Network en China (GHN),the first Global History academic network established in China..

He was a Marie Curie Research Fellow at UCBerkeley, International Institute for Asian Studies (Leiden University), a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of History at Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) in 2011 and Visiting Professor at the UNAM (Mexico), University of Tokyo (Japan) and University of Macerata (Italy).

Some of his latest publications include Vicarious Consumers: Transnational Meetings between the West and East (1730-1808) (Routledge, 2013); China and Latin America in Transition Policy Dynamics, Economic Commitments, and Social Impacts (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2016); Global History and New Polycentric Approaches: Europe, Asia and the Americas in a World Network Systemco-edited with Lucio de Sousa (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2017). This last book was published in Open Access www.palgrave.com/de/book/9789811040528He is Chief Editor of the series Palgrave Studies in Comparative Global HistoryHis latest journal articles include “Historia global vs. eurocentrismo: revisión historiográfica, análisis del consumo y un estudio de caso comparativo entre China y Europa (1730-1808)” published in Economic Research History, and in the journal Studies in Maritime History (Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences) the article on the ‘great divergence’ in China entitled 迈向 “大分流”:中欧贸易网络和全球消费者在澳门和马赛(18-19世纪).
