Carmen Torrella is a part-time lecturer at the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (UPO), teaching on the Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting. She is also a freelance translator and interpreter of English, French, and Spanish. She studied Translation & Interpreting (English) at the UPO, where she graduated top of her class in 2010. Specializing in International Commerce, she then went on to complete the University of Seville’s Master’s Degree in European Studies, spent some time researching at the University of Florence (Italy) and, in 2011, worked for a year in the Casablanca office of Extenda. Since then, she has been working as a translator and interpreter for different companies, mainly in the leather goods industry and the engineering sector. As a means of balancing her work and teaching activities, she earned an Honours MA in Teaching with a dissertation entitled Learning to Teach… Teaching to Learn, which led to focusing on research and completing her PhD thesis on business interpreting La interpretación en el ámbito empresarial: conceptualización de la zona de intervención en el corpus BIRC, which is one of her main lines of research.
