Distributive conflicts and Welfare State

Both the degree of effective redistribution and the popular support for redistributive policies vary considerably from one country to another, which leads one to wonder about the factors that explain the demand for redistributive policies. In this project we start from the idea that the degree of effective redistribution that occurs in a society can be explained from the distributive conflicts that characterize it. And therefore, the variability that we observed empirically in the distributive policies is essentially due to the nature of those conflicts. That is, there are divisions in the social structure that generate opposing political preferences and from this contrast different institutional models with differentiated distributive policies emerge.
