Sonia de Gregorio Hurtado

Doctorate of Architecture with European Mention. Professor in the Department of Urban and Territorial Planning (DUYOT) of the School of Architecture (ETSAM) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).

Her professional experience has been developed in the field of urban/architectural practice and research in urban planning since the beginning of her career.  The first of these activities has been developed working for international architecture and urban planning firms.

She has developed her research activity in different contexts since she was a student at the ETSAM, highlighting her participation in the Laboratorio di Politiche Urbane e Territoriali del Politecnico di Milano, and her professional activity as a researcher at the CEDEX (Ministerio de Fomento) and at the UPM.  She has done research stays at the European Institute for Urban Affairs at Liverpool John Moores University, and the IUAV University of Venice, among others.

Her research work focuses on national urban policies, with a particular attention to the instruments of urban regeneration in the Spanish and European Union framework, from a holistic perspective in which she integrates dimensions in which she has deepened throughout her career (governance, climate change, mobility, gender perspective). She is an evaluator under Horizon 2020 and a member of several expert committees and institutional working groups.

During 2017-18 she has worked as an expert in the framework of the Urban Poverty and Urban Regeneration Partnership of the Urban Agenda for the European Union, and during 2018-19 in the framework of the EU Urban Innovative Actions.  Also, in the Spanish framework, she has participated in the process of elaboration of the Urban Agenda of Andalusia and the Urban Agenda of the Basque Country.
