Mariona Tomás Fornés

Associate Professor Serra Húnter of Political Science at the University of Barcelona (UB) and Grup of Recerca in Local Studies member (GREL). Her research focuses on metropolitan governance, urban policies and local government.

She has published several book chapters, comparative studies and articles in journals such as International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Urban Studies or Journal of Urban Affairs. She has been a researcher at the Institut National de Recherche Scientifique du Québec (INRS) and a post doctoral candidate at the University of Montreal.

She received the Academic Gold Medal from the Governor General of Canada and the INRS award for her PhD in Urban Studies (2007). In 2013, she won the Quebec Parliament's first political book prize for her book on metropolitan reforms in Montreal ("Penser métropolitain? La bataille politique du Grand Montréal"). In 2017 he published a book on Pasqual Maragall's metropolitan thinking ("Governar la Barcelona real. Pasqual Maragall i el dret de la ciutat metropolitana").

She is currently leading a research project on citizen participation in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona and a comparative project on metropolitan governance in Spain.
