NEW CHALLENGES FOR URBAN POLICIES: GOVERNANCE, INNOVATION AND CO-PRODUCTION

Long term institutional and socio-economic changes, evidenced by the ‘crisis’, have promoted a new cities’ scenario. New ideas are needed regarding the design and implementation of urban policies in order to meet the new urban challenges. In fact, several guidelines, initiatives and ‘good practices’ exist at local level taking governance processes, innovation and co-production as their common elements. However, the diversity of these initiatives (according to their issues, actors, strategies, local contexts,…) suggest that a new framework should be developed to understand the character and effects of these new urban policies from a comparative perspective. How they are?, What these new strategies represent?, What factors promote its development?, What are their impacts?.

The network aims to consolidate previous results developed by their members about these questions. The main objective is to initiate the development of a new analytical framework to analyze these new trends that could promote the proposal of general guidelines about potential solutions regarding how local governments could develop public policies to address the new urban challenges. In order to develop this objective the network will organize ‘internal seminars’ with network members, ‘external seminars’ involving other research groups and practitioners, as well as ‘methodological workshops’ including junior researchers.
