Hoy tengo una entrevista muy interesante (espero!!!) con una estudiante irlandesa para que podamos aprender que saben y que piensan los irlandeses sobre esta tierra magnífica de Andalusia. La entrevistada es una amiga mia, Julie, tiene 19 años y está en su primer año de la carrera en fonoaudiología.
- Do you know what Andalusia is?
All I know is that it’s in the south of Spain, and it’s very near Africa. I think it sounds like it’s a region of Spain.
Eso nos muestra que es ampliamente conocido los vínculos entre el norte de Africa y Andalusia.
2. Had you ever heard of Andalusia through the media?
No, I had never heard of it on tv or on the news. I think I had a Spanish teacher in school once mention that it is a region of Spain where the accent is very strong but I had never heard of it in any other context.
Parece que a la televisión o en las noticias en Irlanda, no hablan sobre Andalusia como region propia, parece que generalizan y hablan mas de España en conjunto.
3. What do you think of when you think of Spain
I think of flamenco dancing, flamenco music, Spanish guitar, that cold soup called gazpacho, the Spanish tortilla de patatas.
Es muy interesante a ver la cosas que Julie típicamente asocia con España, porque la mayoría de ellos son cosas que tienen orígenes en Andalusia.
4. Have you ever been to Andalusia?
I’ve been to the costa del sol on summer holidays, as I spent a week in Benalmadena.
Hay mucho mas de Andalusia que los irlandeses deberían explorar. Parece que los medios de comunicación sólo muestren un lado de lo que es Andalusia.
CONCLUSIÓN
Although Julie didn’t think she knew much about Andalusia, we have learned a lot about how Andalusia is portrayed to Irish people. Julie thought she just new some basic things about Spain but in fact a lot of the things she knew were Andalusian things!,
It seems that the Irish media are only showing one small part of what Andalusia really is. Although the areas like the costa del sol are great for tourism, we need the Irish media to show not only those kinds of places but more so the lively culture and beautiful landscapes of the region!
It was also very interesting to see that the a lot of the things that people associate with Spain are actually things that are born from Andalusia. So many key pieces of Spanish culture originated in Andalusia and just shows how priceless Andalusia is to Spanish culture!!

Para mi Andalucía contiene la esencia de España y ¡me gusta tanto tener este conocimiento de primera mano de su cultura mágica!
