Abstract

The architecture frequently has to confront the needs or preferences of posterior epochs, that are unpredictable at the time of design and construction. This one is the case of the first medieval churches of Córdoba, which were built following a simple architectural model. Its shapes have been frequently classified as Gothic-Mudejar. The architectural set is both homogeneous and numerous, and therefore allows to clearly analyze the buildings’ functional and esthetic transformations. These buildings have demonstrated its versatility for seven centuries. These were related to symbolic aspects, the form, the interior space, liturgy, music and singing, or also with everything what concerns the death.
