Horizontes de lo convulso. Identidades artísticas transculturales en el siglo XIX: México y España.

In both Mexico and Spain, the 19th century was a period of profound changes, characterized by the deployment of social and political upheavals that would find in the arts a perfect instrument for the construction of collective identities. However, beyond these creative manifestations in search of their own cultural expressions, a series of artistic connections and communicative processes between both countries are evident that, far from disappearing with the Independence of Mexico, continued to develop during the century.

This monograph proposes a reflection on the points of meeting and disagreement, on the contributions and exchanges between Mexican and Spanish arts during the 19th century, on a path towards modernity, which converges in many sections. To this end, the multidisciplinary approach and the study of the artists, their works and the cultural and social scenarios will provide an overall vision that aspires to vindicate nineteenth-century artistic exceptionalism through images, perceptions and aesthetic experiences, whose influences transcended the margins of that century, extending widely to the current era.
