To approach the life and work of Dr Leyda Oquendo is to revisit an existence dedicated to the exercise of human rights and the knowledge of historical truth, a thesis that guided her along the paths of social sciences, of her Afro-diasporic studies for the achievement of justice and equality. Her work should be a reference in the history of anti-racism and Afro-feminism in contemporary Cuba, socio-ideological tendencies to which Dr Oquendo dedicated an important part of her intellectual work and militant activism.
