Estudo prospetivo de 20 anos em Espanha

Resumo

O suicídio foi estabelecido como a principal causa de morte nas prisões espanholas. Este estudo tem como objetivo comparar a incidência do suicídio na população prisional espanhola com a população em geral, analisando as diferenças de acordo com o sexo, a idade e o estatuto processual (condenados vs. presos preventivos) durante um período de 20 anos. Para efetuar a análise comparativa entre a população prisional e não prisional, foi necessário agrupar os dados em cinco faixas etárias (18-25, 26-30, 31-40, 41-60 e mais de 60 anos). Esta categorização deve-se à forma como as diferentes fontes oficiais apresentaram a informação, o que levou a discrepâncias em relação às repartições habituais da população espanhola. Concretamente, nos registos de suicídios não penitenciários, as faixas etárias variam entre 15-24, 25-29, 30-39, etc. Os resultados revelam que a população prisional tem um risco de suicídio significativamente mais elevado do que a população em geral, com um aumento mais acentuado nas mulheres. Além disso, os homens em prisão preventiva apresentam um risco de suicídio mais elevado do que os que já estão a cumprir uma pena. As implicações deste estudo sublinham a necessidade de reforçar as políticas de prevenção do suicídio no contexto prisional, adaptando as intervenções às particularidades de género, idade e situação processual.
