FAQS for incoming students
The Faculty of Humanities gives you total freedom when it comes to choosing the subjects that you want to study. However, in some courses you may see that there is a limited number of students per group and local students have preference in these subjects, so you will have to adapt to the groups that have less students.
There will be a minimum and maximum number of international students per class in these groups. This number will determine if you can or cannot register in a class.
In addition, some subjects require a high level of Spanish language, such as the interpreting, or courses on normative aspects of Spanish Language. You can find all details in the Subject Guides (“Guías docentes”).
The subjects that you take in the UPO must be approved by your Erasmus coordinator in your home university.

Before you start looking for a subject you have to know the following information about it in order to find it in the timetable:
- In which semester is it taught? As you can see, in the website the information is divided into semesters.
- How is this Degree organized? This information is important when you are looking for a subject of the Translation and Interpreting degree. As you may already know, in this Degree we can choose between three B languages (first foreign languages) which are English, French and German; and five C languages (second foreign languages), which are English, French, German, Italian and Arabic. This means that English, French and German have main subjects that will be not always offered for the second languages: For example: Traducción Especializada B/A/B II is only taught in English, French and German, and Traducción General C/A/C can be found in the five languages of the UPO.
- How many groups have that subject? This information is really important. You may find that sometimes one subject is split in 9 groups for the practice class. Choose the timetable that suits you best, but if the practice class have a limited number of students you will have to attend in the timetable that the professor assigns you. On the other hand, every subject has a theorical part, where all groups are usually together in class.
If you want to find out this information about the subjects, you can look it up in the excel document "Subjects at the Faculty of Humanities":

Blackboard is the virtual platform that professors and students use to communicate and share documents. In Blackboard you can find the syllabus of the subject and all the information regarding the professor and the materials that will be used in class. In order to get Blackboard access, please use the username and password provided at your arrival by the International Relations Office (Área de Relaciones Internacionales y Cooperación, building 45). Then you will have to register the subjects that you are going to take in the university as explained during the welcome meeting and in a few days you will have access to the virtual subjects in which you registered. The UPO gives Erasmus students some weeks to decide which subjects they want to take, so the first weeks you won’t have access to Blackboard, but you can ask the professor or your classmates for the information regarding the subject.
