La Finca Recreo “El Altillo” de Jerez de la Frontera: origen, proyectos y estado actual

Abstract

“El Altillo” is one of the last country houses founded at the end of the nineteenth century that still exists and which has not been victim, at least totally, of a town planning. Since Mr. Manuel Maria Gonzalez y Angel bought the country house, landlord and founder of the cellar González Byass, until today, “El Altillo” has kept its composition only with a few changes. However, were made some enlargement and renovation projects for experimented architects which are drawn in unpublished construction plans. This research is an overview through the architectural history of “El Altillo” from the first renovations, enlargement projects to current situation, with especial focus in elements used of Victorian style. This research enhances the historic heritage of Jerez de la Frontera in a period where the English colony went to the south of Spain with their style and traditions, attracted for the sherry wine.
