Abstract

This paper is dedicated to the study of the Marian advocations that, originated in the Iberian Peninsula, were known in the territories of the Real Audiencia de Quito, and spread by different success grade during the viceroyship. Unpublished documentary information and paintings of these dedications preserved in churches and museums are analyzed. The work is divided in two blocks: the first one dedicated to the advocations that were object of foundation of brotherhoods, and the second one to those who had a worship not related to the activity of these corporations, more tied to the private sphere. One attends to the engraved sources used by the local artists, who in several opportunities received these models directly from the principal, some of which are represented as donors in those paintings.
