Abstract

The Diocese of Orihuela, by its special counterreformist character since its foundation, attempted to bring the temples to the new image that demanded the regenerated Catholic movement, imitating their own spatial solutions unique space with chapels. Such was the case of the Cathedral of Orihuela, for which were undertaken reforms in order to accommodate the old Gothic church to the new prevailing image throughout the Catholic world, focused on the adequacy of the presbytery, with the erection of chapels bars, as well as retablos or tabernacles, which stressed the Eucharistic emphasis of these spaces. In short, a whole series of programs and proposals aimed at adapting the space of the Cathedral of Orihuela to the new guidelines and tastes of the time of the Counter-Reformation, which will make it a real stronghold of those days in the diocese of Orihuela.
