TÓPICOS APOLOGÉTICOS EN LA OBRA DE FÍRMICO MATERNO DE ERRORE PRO- FANARUM RELIGIONUM

Resumen

El cristianismo surgió bajo dominación romana, en un ambiente en el que los cultos misté- ricos estaban en auge. Desde sus comienzos, se calificó al cristianismo como a una religión “poco original” que tenía numerosas similitudes con otros cultos con los que compartía el mismo entorno sociocultural. De ahí que los apologistas cristianos, especialmente entre los siglos II al IV, se esforzaran en desacreditar al paganismo en general y a los cultos misté- ricos en particular para mostrar al cristianismo como la única religión verdadera. Fírmico Materno escribió De errore profanarum religionum en el s. IV., en un momento en el que el emperador se había convertido al cristianismo y el debate por el sentido de los préstamos religiosos estaba plenamente vigente.

Christianity came under Roman rule, in an environment in which the mystery cults were booming. From its beginnings, Christianity was described as a “no- innovative” religion which shared many similarities with other cults with the same sociocultural atmosphere. That is the reason because the Christian apologists, especially among the II and IV cen- turies, exerted themselves to discredit the paganism in general and the mistery cults in particular to show Christianity as the only true religion. Firmico Materno wrote De errore profanarum religionum in the 4th century B.C, at a time when the emperor had converted to Christianity and the debate about the direction of religious loans was still under discussion.
