It has been almost half a century since the first edition of Francisco Jurdao's book entitled España en venta (Spain for Sale) was published. And yet, the flood of land and property sales to foreigners associated with the beginning of the tourist invasion and the “uncontrolled urban development” (that began to plague our coasts in the 1960s and 1970s, as denounced in this book), far from moderating, has increased significantly. A flood that has culminated in recent times and has spread not only to land and real estate, but also to the purchase of companies, shares, and the most diverse rights. This article analyzes how the sale of assets to foreign capital has skyrocketed since then. As an epilogue, it also analyzes the Spanish economy's specialization in the export of certain “goods and services” with a large ecological footprint.
