Abstract

This work wants to be a small tribute to David Held after his recent death. We intend to review his interesting contribution and his studies on democracy and his proposal for cosmopolitan social democracy. To do this, we will revisit his democratic theory and we will briefly review the ethical and theoretical background of his project to approach, secondly, the principles and meta-principles that support his cosmopolitan conception. Finally, we will deal with the most controversial aspects of his theory through the debate that has arisen in recent years in the field of political philosophy and other related disciplines, to question whether Held’s postulates satisfy the demands of a more just global system.
