El Pacto Salteño con el Señor del Milagro. De símbolos y deberes religiosos (Salta, siglos XXI al XVII)

Abstract

En la ciudad de Salta (Argentina) se celebra cada mes de septiembre un homenaje a las imágenes del Señor y la Virgen del Milagro, instituido en el año 1692 por autoridades coloniales civiles y eclesiásticas. Desde 1844 se sumó a esta fiesta patronal un pacto de fidelidad entre el pueblo de Salta y el Cristo del Milagro, el cual -con eventuales renovaciones- llegó a consolidarse desde 1948 como acto central de los festejos anuales. El objetivo de este trabajo, en el marco de una investigación en curso, es realizar un ensayo de antropología histórica regresiva de este ‘Pacto’ salteño con las imágenes. Partiendo de las celebraciones contemporáneas donde es reafirmado y reconfigurado anualmente, me propongo focalizar en las representaciones coloniales sobre sus tres ejes: las imágenes ‘del Milagro’ en tanto símbolos religiosos, la figura del ‘pueblo de Salta’ y el ‘Pacto’ en tanto alianza y acuerdo básico del catolicismo local, cuyo análisis permitirá abordar los aspectos normativos del campo religioso salteño.

Every year, the city of Salta celebrates a tribute to the Lord and Virgin of Miracles, which was established in 1692 by civil and ecclesiastical authorities. In 1844, a fidelity pact between the people from Salta and their Lord of Miracles was further added to the patron saint´s celebration, which since 1948 came to be consolidated as the central rite of the annual festivity. The aim of this paper, within the framework of the present ongoing research, is to analyze this ‘Pact’ between the Saltenians and the images, from the viewpoint of regressive historical anthropology. Starting from the contemporary celebration, it will focus on the colonial representations of the Pact considering three main issues: the images of ‘the Miracle’ as religious symbols, the figure of ‘the people from Salta’ (pueblo de Salta), and the ‘Pact’ as a form of basic alliance of local Catholicism. This analysis may shed some light on the normative aspects of the Saltenian religious environment.
