Abstract

This work is the result of research that has been carried out on the stage as a pensioner of the painter Manuel Ramirez Ibanez in the Academia de Bellas Artes de Roma. This painter, born in Arjona (Jaén), was active in the national and international art scene between 1870 and 1892. His great talent and high quality as a painter were the reasons why he earned a pension from of the Diputación de Jaén to continue his studies at the Escuela Superior de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado de Madrid. Also, he won the prestigious scholarship from the Ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores to study at the Academia española de Roma. He was the perfect artist of the second half of the nineteenth century, the artist cultivated both academic history painting as the unofficial painting, with many sales in Europe. His stay in Rome marked a before and after in his painting.
