Abstract

This essay analyzes the issue of the relationship between austerity policies and social rights in terms of the apparent demands of the European social model. However, such analysis highlights the inadequacy between the protection of social rights and the austerity strategies implemented in Europe having an external impact (including the social rights of immigrants). A critical approach through the values enshrined in the European Social Charter allows to build shared visions concerning the correlation between universalism and relativism of human rights, in order to make possible a humanity pact.
