Abstract

This review is about the book “Technologies of Eros. Contribution to a micropolitical theory of pleasure. In his work, Psychoanalyst León A. Damián addresses the practices of intensification of pleasure and the ways in which both pleasure and desire are mediated by structures and devices of power. Damián proposes that Eros Technologies are knowledge that is produced through experimenting with these practices. He concludes that experimentation with one's own body is a way of producing knowledge about eroticism, pleasure and desire in contemporary societies, and the theory that is built on these devices becomes forms of resistance to the pharmacopornographic regime and the control of the heteronorm. Also, the author criticizes the epistemology of sexual and gender binarism. In order to support his theoretical proposal, he relies on texts by Gayle Rubin, Hervé Guibert and the novel “Story of O”. The approaches presented in this book are a weave between Psychoanalysis, Philosophy, Queer Theory and Feminisms.
