Study on Attitudes and Compartments that influence Masculinity from the Perception of Students of the National University of Asunción (Paraguay)

Abstract

This article presents the results of an investigation carried out in 2016, which sought to characterize traditional masculinity from the perception of students of the National University of Asunción in that same year. Among its objectives, the study also sought to identify the influences of the patriarchal system on university students based on attitudes and behaviors of men and women; for which dimensions related to: changes in the new generations were analyzed; the responsibilities that men and women assume in sexuality and reproductive health; parenthood and physical violence.

The methodological design is of a descriptive exploratory type with a qualitative approach in view of the fact that the open and closed semi-structured interview was used as an instrument for data collection, with a guiding questionnaire composed of 30 questions. The sample consisted of 24 interviews with students (12 men and 12 women) of the last years of the careers aged between 23 to 45 years residing in the city of Asunción and the central department, they correspond to students of the careers of Psychology, Social Work, Law and Medicine.
