Dynamics of stigmatization in two cases of the sex market

This article proposes a reflection aimed at understanding the differential dynamics of stigmatization linked to gender and class. To this end, it considers two cases from the Argentine sex market: women engaged in street-based sex work and men who sell erotic content on the platform OnlyFans. These cases represent an opportunity to theoretically rethink the conceptualization of stigma since in both cases exposure and visibility are conditions of possibility for participating in this market; however, there are marked differences in the management of self-image, the possibility of handling information, the narratives of the self, the impact, and the reactions to stigma in one group and the other. In this sense, the article seeks to explore gender and class differences in the cultural regulation of sexuality and the emergence of digital platforms that reconfigure the forms of legitimation in the sex market.
