El antioccidentalismo, opio del mundo islámico
Keywords:
Antioccidentalismo, Islam, choque de civilizaciones, Anti-westernism, clash of civilisationsAbstract

This article analyses the anti-American and anti-Israeli discourse so characteristic of the Arab media and academy , instantiated in two recent works of the Moroccan scholar Mahdi Elmandjra. The article attempts to show how this discourse relies largely on myths and fallacies. Its widespread acceptance is worrying because the anti-Western discourse plays along -intentionally or not- with the strategies of the clash of civilisations and strike the distant enemy designed by Al-Zawahiri and other yihadist ideologues; it does, furthermore, divert the Arab opinions attention, thus favouring the endless postponement of the reforms that those societies so badly need: democratisation, economic efficiency, womens rights, religious tolerance, secularisation, education etc.
