Abstract

This article is devoted to the analysis of different aspects of the history of Neapolitan architecture in the age of the first Bourbon kings, Philip V and Charles III of Spain, focusing on the professional activity of architecs on the royal service, as Ferdinando Sanfelice and the Sicilian Juan Antonio Medrano. Medrano’s career is particularly studied, from his stay in Seville as a teacher for the royal Infants, and his influence on Prince Charles’ architectural taste, to his projects in the kingdom of Naples, the obelisk of Bitonto or the royal palace at Capodimonte.
