the case of the Spanish broad gauge railway (1900-1925)

Abstract

The Spanish railway sector has been one of the most prolifically studied from different fields, due to the important role it has played in its contribution to economic progress. However, the aspects derived from the evaluation of the performance of the different companies have been relatively little dealt with. In this sense, the research work carried out analyses the performance of the Spanish broad gauge railway during the first quarter of the 20th century (1900-1925) through the examination of a sample of railway companies which at that time represented almost 97 percent of the national network.
