Abstract

This article makes use of ethnographic material and in-depth interviews to analyze the exclusive world of golf in Mexico. The text examines the way in which class dynamics operate among the highest strata in Mexican society, showing how privilege is articulated in sports practices. In a novel way, the study shows how social inequities not only work under patterns of class distinction in Mexico. The article addresses the way in which racialized perceptions are also used to generate hierarchical distinctions. For this purpose, empirical material collected between caddies and in driving ranges (practice shots) is used. The incorporation of the argument about racialization offers a more complex analysis of the way in which the processes of domination and subordination work in Mexico.
