Abstract

The pension reform in France undoubtedly constitutes a complex and controversial topic. The objective of this paper is to provide an overview of the pension system in France and the challenges it currently faces. To achieve this, after a brief description of the current system, we will explore the multiple reforms implemented since 1993, which have aimed to make parametric adjustments without, however, achieving long-term sustainability of the system. Lastly, we will address the most recent pension reform, approved in early 2023, which has sparked significant uproar in the media due to the strong protests and social mobilizations that have emerged against it.
