This essay analyses the ethical and political thought of the Spanish philosopher José Luis L. Aranguren (1909-1996), by focusing specially on the writings he produced in the 80ies. These, which had not been included in his complete works, have been recently published thanks to Alfonso García Santesmases impulse. For the author the sentence "democracy as moral" synthesises the core of Aranguren´s thought. For Aranguren, the foundation of democracy lies in the notion of democracy as moral understood as unlimited commitment and social responsibility.
