Ethical statement

Ethical code

Sociología del Deporte is an international scientific journal that offers a space for reflection and debate on the sporting phenomenon from the perspective of the social sciences. It aims to connect, from a scientific point of view, the main theories and currents of sociology —but also those of related disciplines (anthropology, history, social psychology, sports sciences and political and moral philosophy)— with the intellectual debate of our time on the sporting phenomenon. It promotes the study of the sporting phenomenon as an expression of social reality and encourages the analysis of social events and changes through sport. The journal is guided by the ethical code of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), aimed at editors, reviewers and authors.

Authors' commitments

  • Originality and accuracy of data: Authors who submit original works to Sociología del Deporte must attest that the work is original and unpublished, that it does not contain parts of other authors or other fragments of works already published by the authors. In addition, they confirm the veracity of the data.
  • Multiple and/or repetitive publications: The author must not publish articles in which the same results are repeated in more than one scientific journal or any other non-academic publication.
  • Attributions, citations and references: The author must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article along with their DOI or URL if applicable.
  • Authorship: The authors guarantee the inclusion of those people who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution both in the conceptualization and planning of the work and in the analysis of the results and in the writing of the same. In turn, the order of appearance of the authors has been ranked according to their level of responsibility and involvement.
  • Access and preservation: If the members of the Editorial Board consider it appropriate, the authors of the articles must also make available the sources or data on which the research is based, which can be preserved for a reasonable time after its publication and possibly become accessible.
  • Conflict of interest and declaration of responsibility: All authors must explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the proposed interpretations. Authors must also indicate any funding from agencies and/or projects from which the research article arose.
  • Errors in published articles: When an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in his or her article, he or she must immediately inform the editors of the journal and provide them with all the necessary information to list the relevant corrections at the bottom of the article (always in a marginal note, so as not to alter the publication).
  • Responsibility: The responsibility for the content of the articles published in the “Sociology of Sport” is exclusively that of the authors. The authors also undertake to carry out a review of the most current and relevant scientific literature on the subject analysed, taking into account in a plural way the different currents of knowledge.

Reviewers' Commitments

  • Contribution to the editorial decision: Reviewers undertake to carry out and guarantee a critical, honest, constructive and unbiased review of both the scientific and literary quality of the writings within the scope of their knowledge and skills.
  • Respect for review times: The reviewer who does not feel competent in the subject to be reviewed or who cannot finish the evaluation in the time provided must immediately notify the editors. The reviewers undertake to evaluate the work in the shortest possible time to respect the established deadlines.
  • Confidentiality: Each assigned manuscript must be considered confidential, so these texts must not be discussed with other people without the express consent of the editors.
  • Objectivity: Peer review must be carried out objectively. Reviewers are obliged to adequately justify each of their assessments, always using the review template. Reviewers will present a complete critical report with appropriate references in accordance with the "Sociology of Sport" review protocol.
  • Text visualization: Reviewers undertake to accurately indicate bibliographical references to key works that the author may have forgotten. The reviewer must also inform the editors of any similarities or overlaps of the manuscript with other published works.
  • Anonymity: To ensure that the review process is as objective, impartial and transparent as possible, the identity of the authors is removed before the work is submitted for peer review. In the event that the identity of the authors, their institutional affiliations or any other data that puts the anonymity of the document at risk has been compromised, the reviewer must immediately notify the editors.

Editors' commitment

  • Publication decision: The editors will ensure that the most scientifically qualified reviewers and scientists are selected to issue a critical and expert assessment of the work, with the least possible bias. Sociología del Deporte chooses to select two reviewers for each work in order to ensure greater objectivity in the review process. In the event that there are different assessments, a third reviewer will be selected in exceptional cases.
  • Honesty: The editors evaluate the articles submitted for publication based on the scientific merit of the content, without discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political opinion of the authors.
  • Confidentiality: The editors and the members of the working group undertake not to reveal information related to the articles submitted for publication to anyone other than the authors, reviewers, and editors. The editors and the Editorial Committee undertake to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts, their authors, and reviewers, so that anonymity preserves the intellectual integrity of the entire process.
  • Conflict of interest and disclosure: The editors undertake not to use the content of the articles submitted for publication in their research without the written consent of the author.
  • Respect for timelines: The editors are ultimately responsible for meeting the review and publication deadlines for accepted papers, to ensure rapid dissemination of their results. They undertake to comply with the published deadlines (maximum of 90 days for the estimation/rejection from the reception of the manuscript in the Review Platform).
