2.- PROCEDURE FOR SUBMITTING MANUSCRIPTS

The selection process is free and follows the procedure described below:

1- Reception of manuscripts: to present original manuscripts to Sociología del Deporte (SD), you should access the website devoted to this journal on the Open Journal Systems platform, after having registered at the following link:

https://www.upo.es/revistas/index.php/sociologiadeldeporte/libraryFiles/downloadPublic/24 [PDF english]

Manuscripts will only be received using this platform, contributions sent by email messages will not be accepted.

Manuscripts should be submitted in their original version, as the authors would like them to figure in the journal edition, and in a completely anonymised version, which does not cite names or institutions of the authors, or any other information that makes it possible to identify the authorship of the article, in order to guarantee impartiality in the assessment of the studies. The anonymised version will be referred to as such in the name of the specific file.

However, doubts or requests for further information about the process for submitting manuscripts should be sent to the following email address: sociologiadeldeporte@upo.es

2- Automatic reply to the sending of a contribution: once the manuscript has been received on the said platform, its author/s will automatically receive an email confirming reception.

3- Verification of the originality of the manuscript. After the contributions are registered, they will be subjected to a verification of their originality, using the Safe Assign tool, which is a system that prevents and detects academic plagiarism. If the presence of coincidences in the registered manuscript is not detected with this tool, it will continue in the corresponding editorial process.

4- The first assessment or prior selection: after its anonymisation, a member of the Editorial Board will confirm whether the manuscript is suitable both regarding the thematic context of the journal, and its general quality. In the case that it is accepted by the Editorial Board, the original anonymised manuscript will be subjected to external assessment.

As a general rule, studies will be excluded whose content is unrelated to the sociological perspective of sport, or its related disciplines indicated in these same norms, or whose topic is not related to the motivation of this journal. Originals that do not follow the correct structure of an academic text or whose writing and style do not present the quality expected in this journal, may also be excluded. Notwithstanding the above, if the Editorial Board considers it appropriate, the author/s may be asked to correct the errors in the format or presentation, or to adjust it to the requirements detailed in the writing style norms.

In the case that the article is rejected, the Editorial Board will notify the author/s justifying their decision.

5- Peer review: each contribution that complies with the requisites for assessment, according to the criteria of the Editorial Board, will be sent anonymously to be reviewed by at least two external specialists. These reviewers will issue a reasoned report on the scientific quality of the manuscript and the suitability or not of it being published, which will be taken into account by the Editorial Board. If there were no agreement among the reviewers, an assessment could be requested from a third expert.

The member of the Editorial Board who was assigned the initial assessment of the contribution will draw up a definitive commentary or assessment report, based on the independent evaluations of the specialists together with his or her own evaluation, and will submit it for debate to the Editorial Board for a final decision.

This report or commentary, together with the reports of the external reviewers and the final decision by the Editorial Board will be sent to the authors by email.

6- Decisions by the Editorial Board: The Editorial Board can take four types of decisions according to the external assessments of each manuscript:

  1. Publishable with no modifications.
  2. Publishable with minor modifications: the manuscript will be published directly or after receiving minor improvements.
  3. Publishable with major modifications: it could be published after receiving major improvements.
  4. Not publishable: the manuscript will not be published.

The plenary sessions of the Editorial Board will take place at least twice a year, and at least half plus one of the members must be present.

The authors of the manuscripts that are reviewed for their publication will have two weeks to inform Sociología del Deporte (SD) if they agree to carry out the possible modifications as proposed by the Editorial Board, as well as time limit within which they undertake to send in the revised version, which in no case can exceed two months. The manuscript, once revised, should be sent to the journal again together with a memorandum explaining the changes made, clearly detailing the changes proposed and accepted or not, with the reasons they consider pertinent. If the Editorial Board considers that the modifications made correspond to those required, the manuscript will be considered approved for publication.

7- Video-AbstractSociología del Deporte (SD) includes in each of the published contributions access to a video-abstract using a QR code, thus responding to the proposal of this journal to reach specialised readers and other types of public more easily. Thus, the author/s whose originals have been accepted will be requested to provide a video presenting the information in the abstract of the article in the language in which it is published. In the case that this is not done before the publication of the issue the journal will make the video-abstract with the collaboration of the members of the Editorial Board, after having requested prior permission from the authors.

8- Criteria of the Editorial Board: the factors on which the decisions on the acceptance-rejection of manuscripts are based are as follows: originality and significance of the contribution to the context of sociology of sport, as well as the methodological quality and presentation or style of the submitted text.
